Swamp Tour

Are you beginning to see why we loved New Orleans so much?!
Another highlight was the Pearl River Swamp Tour.  If you have ever seen the show "Swamp People" on the history channel I think...this is where we went.  The tour company we used is actually the same company that carries the film crew for the show.  It was unlike anything we had ever seen, and to top it off, no one else showed up for the tour except us so we got a private tour which was amazing!
This is one of many homes on the river...could not believe that people actually live here!  It is an entire community, the kids take little boats to the bus stop for school, they have a lot where they keep their trucks...so they just boat to the lot when they need to make a grocery run.  Generations of families live literally ON the river and fish and hunt gators for a living!

As you can imagine, a highlight for all of us was actually seeing an alligator up close and personal!  Our guide keeps hot dogs and marshmallows aboard to feed these guys.  Lillian and Benjamin... OK and if truth be told, the Papa and Momma as well were clammering over each other to get a close view of this creature!
Our guide was amazing and full of knowledge about the history and science of the swamp...the kids were even listening attentively and capturing all of the information he was sharing with us!  They got to ask endless questions which he graciously answered!

Our amazing guide and the happy tourists!
